Synthesis and Racemization Process of Chiral Carbon Nanorings: A Step toward the Chemical Synthesis of Chiral Carbon Nanotubes

We herein report the synthesis of [13]cycloparaphenylene-2,6-naphthylene ([13]CPPN), which is the shortest segment of [15,14] chiral carbon nanotube. As [n]CPP ([n]cycloparaphenylene) is the shortest segment of armchair carbon nanotubes, it will be possible to synthesize chiral or armchair carbon nanotube selectively by using CPP or CPPN.
